This year, we were able to try a new event! Since there have been no chances to go to a normal festival, we decided to make our own and it was a huge success.
Everyone looked so fashionable in their yukatas and jinbeis. It was a great chance to dress up, get some toys, and enjoy the summer!
The end of July has arrived! How quickly this term flew by…
First we hosted our annual Speech Day on Zoom for the parents! We had a total of 11 kids: 3 Jupiters, 4 Saturns, and 4 Mercuries. Everyone was so excited to present and no one had any big blunders!
We also got to celebrate our July birthdays together. Our birthday students received their homemade presents in their shimmery costumes.
Before our last day of the term, we also had Cleaning Day! We have always done cleaning at the end of each term, but from this year, it now has a whole new meaning.
Our kids cleaned their own cubbies, toys, and craft supplies boxes. We also cleaned the floors together and made sure everything was sanitized.
A special thanks to the volunteer mamas who came to clean the harder-to-reach places for us 🙂
And last, but not least, we have been able to enjoy pool time (in low group numbers at a time) every day!
What a hot couple of weeks it’s been. And now it’s summer break! Have a safe time in this heat!
We are looking forward to seeing you again in a few weeks 🙂
Jupiter class spent some time sharing about their summer vacations
Welcome back from summer break! Our second term started with a very full day, but Language House kids all had a very good attitude!
The schedule for our first day back started off with our opening ceremony. Everyone was excited to be back! We talked about some big events coming up in this semester, including Sports Day, for which teams have officially been announced.
Our day also included a big earthquake drill, simulating quakes bigger than our normal simulated earthquake drills. This meant that all mothers came to pick up their children by foot, as if the roads were too bad to use any vehicles to go home.
Since our students were on summer break for the month of August, our monthly birthday party for August birthdays was also held today. It was fun to celebrate with face paint, dancing, and the Fruits Basket game!
Our Jupiters, the lowest class in our kindergarten, have now been a part of the daily life at ILH for 3 months. From the second term, they will be even more integrated as they learn to take on the same responsibilities as their upperclassmen. These include Show & Tell, leader roles, and Project BOB, otherwise known as Language House’s optional at-home practice English booklets.
As our first day back comes to a close, we hope the kids will keep up the enthusiasm and get back into the ILH groove with us!
This year’s handmade postcard from our staff to our kids
It’s been a hot, humid Japanese summer so far here at Language House. Our year-round students have been off for a few weeks, enjoying time with family and friends.
During this time, our staff has been busy with various summer camps and planning for our second academic term.
The idea of starting a blog has been in the works for a while, so it’s exciting to be able to share this site with you!
We look forward to your feedback and continued visits to the site once we get things moving.
